Lol, actually it's just the opposite. It's not very funny at all... I just had no clue what to write for the synopsis. The sotry is actually about Necromancers and how profoundly screwed up the main character is in the head.

Always. Hard to find like minds who don't mind delving into a little darkness.

Why thank you for the friend request. Always happy to compare notes with fellow UFers, especially those who aren't afraid to delve into the darker side of the human psyche. My sick and twisted little mind gets lonely for companionship sometimes.

Working on a chapter, like a good little writer. I have time to spare, though. :)

That sounds great. I saw you add me on msn. I guess you're busy right now.

I look forward to talking to you about it when you're free.

Hi, I wonder if you'd be interested in seeing how we fit as CC partners?

(I just realized I replied to you... on my own profile. )

Ahhh. So late... but must... reply...

my MSN is kristina_horses11@hotmail.com (we don't talk about the lameness of my msn) and my email/gtalk is usullusa@gmail.com

I prefer googletalk, which is built into gmail, if at all possible.

And yes, I too am doing the World Building event. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum, it's just letting me wander off track. Which is interesting and fun, but not helpful.

Profile Information

Your writer's blog or website:
http://saintknowall.wordpress.com
What is your genre?
New weird, steampunk, urban fantasy, low fantasy, science fiction, and speculative fiction. I'm also a fan of magical realism. I really enjoy character-driven books.
What do you write?
novels, short stories
Are you a pantser, a plotter, or a hybrid?
hybrid
What is your current project?
Working title: Gemini City

Gavin Twofinger has had a very bad day. He failed to assassinate his latest target, his boss wants to kill him, and somehow a demon has possessed him. Can he restore his reputation, avoid the wrath of the Head Assassin, and get his body back under control?

Gemini City is the first in a planned series of novels. Since readers have different comfort zones, I figure I should warn people right off the bat that the story contains plenty of strong language and violence, as well as some homosexuality and polygamy.
What stage is your current project in?
Partial first draft.
I'm looking for a CP who
is willing to swap chapters as we go, who will be there from the ground up on a project
How long have you been writing?
Seven years.
Published or Aspiring?
aspiring
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
Concepts, characters, and dialogue.
What do you feel is your greatest weakness as a writer?
Ultimately, developing enough oomph to finish a story. As for the actual writing bit, I have problems with pacing and vagueness.
Do you have any specialized knowledge in some field?
Some in certain areas of the martial arts (mostly kempo style) and weaponry (Phillipine stick fighting, Japanese kamas, and some basic knife defense moves). Fine arts such as watercolor, acrylic, and drawing. I also have chemistry and biology knowledge from a (painful) two-year stint as a science major.
Age
22
Where are you from?
Crazy California
Looking for a CP or Taken?
looking

Stats and the like...

I've been in a few writing groups, but this is my first foray into critique partners.

What I can offer
I'm most interested in critiquing fantasy, science fiction, or speculative fiction, as it's what I'm most familiar with. Sensitive subjects and concepts don't bother me.

What I'm looking for
Uninterested in the sentence by sentence type of critique; I can find nitpicky errors like those easily enough. Instead, I'm looking for a critique partner that can focus on larger areas like pacing, overall plot, characterization, etc., and isn't afraid to tell me when it sucks and why.

I'm currently working on the first draft of an urban fantasy novel. It has some sensitive subjects such as serial murder, torture, homosexuality, and transgendered persons, so it's likely not to interest everybody.

Good News and Bad News

Let's get the bad over with first. I failed NaNo this year. The plot wasn't gelling with the setting and characters and after 19K I gave up. The good news is that after sulking for the rest of the month I pulled out an older story and finished the first draft a few days ago. I can appreciate irony when it works in my favor.

I'm gunning to get the second draft finished by the New Year, and then I'll actually have a solid story to pass around for critiquing. Hurrah!

And on the other end of the spectrum...

I like to experiment with prose styles. The last entry showcased my "this is what happens when after reading a lot of Carter" style. For this one, I'll use something closer to my regular style, which tends to be terse in tone and with a dollop of black humor. In theory, anyway.

And eventually I will use this blog beyond pimping samples of my writing. Really. If I don't forget about it again.

Show and Tell

Since a short summary of my current project is already emblazoned on my profile page, I decided to use this shiny new blog to post an actual excerpt. The story itself is still in first draft form, but its first chapter has long been cleaned up and refined to remind myself what I want to do with this beast.

The prose is heavily influenced by Angela Carter's rich, ornate style, but I'm experimenting with switching between first person and third person POV and fluctuating the writing style to acco… Continue
