What I Write
I write primarily science fiction, speculative, and fantasy novels. My biggest project right now is the first novel I have finished, a dystopia titled Flawed. I am working simultaneously on a few other pieces, two of which are in very early stages, and one of which is a short story I am fleshing out to novel-length. My work tends to focus a lot on character development, with little or no romance. I operate on the assumption that most people are good deep down inside, though some are worse than others, and my characters come across that way. I write as often as I can, and am devoting the next two years entirely to writing in the hopes of determining whether I have what it takes.

What I'm Looking for in a CP
I'm looking for someone who will be thorough and honest with their comments (though some gentleness in the wording of such comments would be appreciated). Particularly, right now I am looking for someone (not related to me, and not alread y a friend) to crit my novel for me. I prefer someone who can work fairly quickly, although I don't mind it taking a while if the quality of the advice is good.

What I Can Offer as a CP
I am a good editor, having grown up with two newspaper editors for parents, so I am very good at nitpicking details. I've also read a lot in these genres, so I probably have some experience with similar works. My life for the next few years is devoted to writing, so I should be fairly quick to respond, and am always available to discuss any questions you might have. I don't read things that are very sex-heavy.

Hi Regan,

I'm Madeline. I'm also an aspiring fantasy novelist. I read that you attend law school -- I'm in medical school, and I really need to find someone who writes. These doctor types are driving me nuts!

I'd be willing to swap chapters with you. I'm not ready just yet but will be in October. We could do a trial run and see if it's helpful. My e-mail is madeline.leong@duke.edu. Let me know, and good luck on all your writing endeavors.

Hi Regan,

It does sound like we might be a good match! My only concern is that I'm not able to devote a great deal of time to writing at the moment, as I have a 3-month old baby. I still write every day, but I might not be as quick to review and respond as you would like! However, I'm happy to critique and encourage, and will be as tough as you like.

If you are still interested, please drop me a line; m.faber at iinet.net.au. If not, no hard feelings - I can understand you want someone to keep up with your pace.
