I guess I should post here. I write paranormal suspense with romantic elements. I just finished the first draft of my latest, which had been requested by two different agents before I'd even begun the query process, so that's some good news!
I'd really love to find a CP who can be more of a beta reader...reading completed books in first draft or final form and tell me what might not be working in plot, character, etc. Also, I could probably use someone who'd be willing to brainstorm when I get stuck in my book (since I am a pantster mostly).
Looking forward to making new connections here. What a great idea for a group!
I'm currently involved in writing a romantic suspense with paranormal elements. I've also written (in various forms of completion) several straight catagory romances, aimed at Superromance. My goal is to utlimately write for a single title line such as MIRA. I enjoy reading most areas of romance, but also enjoy reading some non-romance such as Manda Scott, Kathleen and Michael O'Neal Gear, Diana Gabaldon, Jean Auel, Steve Berry to name a few. When I stray from romance I tend to go epic, lol. I have a slew of paranormals by various authors in my TBR bookcase, but have mostly read Maggie Shayne, Susan Krinard and Katie McAllister in the past.
Thanks so much for starting this group. I've been silently wanting a critique partner for a while now, so the timing is perfect. It just goes to show, when you ask for something, and are ready, the Universe provides.
Ooo yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one writing romantic suspense with paranormal elements. Most of my stuff is pretty straight suspense, but I've got ghosts that popped up in my current WIP and it's adding an unusual layer to keep things interesting :D
The ghost of my hero's mother is a secondary character in my ms. My heroine is a medium. The hero's a skeptical cop, whose skepticism runs deep because of his 'fortune teller' mother. So he's got baggage. Lilly, his mom, has provided me with all sorts of info not only about Conor but also about the story itself. She's a lot of fun. Too bad she's dead, otherwise she'd get her own book someday. LOL
I've got one of the victims of my serial killer haunting the hero (homicide detective) and infiltrating his dreams because he's the only one who believes enough (in ghosts in general) to get the message. The heroine is a stone cold skeptic, and I'm drawing close to the point where she can't logically explain some of these events away (I'm thinking full out manifestation).
Kristin,
Sounds like our needs are similar. I don't need help dotting "i's" and crossing "t's" so much as someone to find those plot/character issues I might have overlooked in the post-first draft phase. Also need a push sometimes when I hit a wall and just can't come up with a solution for a scene. (where I'm at right now, hence trolling the internet as a timesuck).
I was hoping to have this WIP ready to begin the quert phase by 9/1, but have found some plot issues that need to be resolved first and could really use a critical writer's eye (as opposed to friends who just say "Oh, it's great!")
Hi! I've been writing for years, but I'm not getting any closer to getting things done. I'm a member of RWA, but that's not all I do. I'm a divorced mom w/ two adult children, two grandchildren, and two large dogs. I'm trying to sell my house and looking for another one. Of course, I also work full time. I'm a writer, reader, animal & nature lover, learner, questioner, geek, nurturer, and mentor/tutor/teacher, plus I'm a lot of fun.
I hope the CP Match will connect me with lots of new friends, both aspiring and published. However, my main purpose here is to find my elusive CP Pal! When it comes to finding a CP Pal, I'm serious!
I'm looking for one, or two, CP Pal(s) - a good friend who can and will inspire, give, take, push, pull, celebrate, and mourn with me from here to eternity. Qualities I'm looking for in my CP Pal(s) are accountability, devotion/loyalty, and mid-range experience with writing. Although these will affect our relationship, they aren't important to having a relationship: age, gender, ethnicity, location, genre, publications.
I want and need a CP Pal who will be -
- as serious about doing this and getting published as I am.
- with me for the next 100 years.
- fearless & adventurous, but not careless or reckless.
- willing to give and take positive constructive criticism.
- honest and loyal, funny and open, friendly and motivational.
- in contact at least once each week, even if it's just to connect.
- be my bud for as long as we both shall live!
If I haven't scared you off yet, let's see if we click!
Hi peeps! I'm Zoe Winters. I write paranormal romance and some erotica, though I'll be writing most of that under a different name. I've been writing somewhat seriously for about 15 years, but haven't really started toward publication until recently because I didn't feel like my work was ready.
I've got a few crit partners (since I've got a few diff readers and I don't expect feedback without offering to do the same in return) so while it says I'm "looking." I'm not totally sure if I am or not.
Though it might be a good idea for me to get a few more eyes on my novella.
Hello,
I normally place any paranormal works I write under urban fantasy, but this is the only forum for such work. (not if this should go under fantasy... hmmm)
I just finished my last paranormal fantasy, A Plague of Ghosts a few months ago and plan to start editing it in Sept. (I normally dread editing, but I really want to reread this novel and work on it!)
Haven't had much luck with crits and crits partners. Lately found some interesting groups that run on a point system and have gotten a little feed back from them. So I thought I would join this group and see what happens.
I've been writing for 10 years now and have far to many novels building up and need to find someone that will push me to edit more.
As for a crit partner... I feel like any kind of help would be better then getting an "it's good" back on any of my work.
I believe what I'm looking for most is someone that can see plot holes, where the decription falls shorts, where the characters don't seem right. etc.
I've always been a writer and a heavy reader (speed reading is my specialty, I can devour a novel in a day). I'm now a stay-at-home-mommy of 4 (Ages: Boys - 11, 9, Girls - 7 and almost 3).
I am currently on the (hopefully) final\polishing edit of a YA Fantasy-Adventure that is the first in a planned series.
Also, I am in the research\planning stages of an Urban Fantasy. There will be some romance, but not enough to really call it Paranormal Romance.
